Colas Rail’s signalling team has undertook an extensive programme of work to update infrastructure for the Berks and Hants line (BHL)
The BHL project has seen the renewal of 114 track circuits on the line with new EBI 400 Track Circuit equipment put in place.
In order to support the new tech, 72 new signalling location cases were installed as well as their platforms and retaining walls with the manufacture of the cases completed in house by Colas Rail‘s signalling team which gave their Signalling Apprentices the chance to further their skills whilst creating a sustainable solution for their client.
For the upgrade work to go ahead the line needed the Insulated Rail Joints to be removed along the line in order to provide the jointless track for the scheme’s final commissioning.
The Colas Rail team also offered value engineering solutions for their client, providing cost and programme benefits via several initiatives, most notable was the significant cut to the required E&P scope.
The key focus of the project was to increase train detection reliability whilst futureproofing the network in order to optimise performance and cut delays for passenger and freight operations on the line.
In collaboration with the client and using a one-team approach, Colas Rails Signalling team delivered the project safely, on time and at a reduced rate as part of Network Rail‘s Signalling and Telecommunications Framework,
