The Severn Valley Railway has announced that their purple locomotive is set to haul its first trains this weekend.
For the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Severn Valley Railway repainted 34027 Taw Valley into a special purple livery.
A vote was held and Taw Valley is now set to be renamed ‘Elizabeth II’.
The new locomotive was unveiled last month prior to the Spring Steam Gala in its new eye-catching livery. You can watch a video here.
Whilst No. 70 Elizabeth II will not have its name plates this weekend, as they are reserved for its official naming ceremony on the 2nd June, it is rostered to haul the return trip of S2 on Saturday 14th May.
The first train of the day for ‘Elizabeth II’ will be the 12:30 from Bridgnorth.
No. 70 is also rostered to be in operation on Sunday 15th May, hauling the S1 diagram.
What do you think of the locomotive? Let us know in the comments below.

looks as good as Lincolnshire Connect bus livery as seen on buses on the 505
Well I think that it has a funky twist for a paint job but I think it’s better than the British Railways colours it worn even if it is a temporary paint job.
Well, I think the re-painting of the loco into this hideous colour is in poor taste. No doubt the SVR was grateful to receive financial help during Covid by virtue of being an organisation celebrating our railway heritage, is this re-paint in the spirit of that raison d’etre?
Well said Tony, I won’t be visiting the SVR anytime soon
It looks horrendous, and to rename it just adds insult to injury. This is not genuine and its not right.
So right, I agree entirely, It looks awful
It’s good for a temporary theme
