Northern have rolled out pup-friendly provisions to support customers travelling with dogs, making travel easier with four-legged friends.
As warmer weather hopefully gets closer, Northern has installed new dog watering stations throughout its 138 staffed stations in a bid to help furry friends keep hydrated whilst out and about.
Mark Powles, customer & commercial director at Northern, said:
“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do – whether they are human or canine.
“Dogs are welcome on our services are we want to provide the best journey possible for everyone.”
The facilities have been put in place as part of a wider programme of improvements that Northern is carrying out across its rail network.
A campaign by the rail operator which is called ‘A Better Way to Go’ will be highlighting the work being carried out by Northern as part of their commitment to improving each step of passengers’ journeys.
Mark added:
“Our A Better Way to Go campaign demonstrates the hard work that has taken place as we continue to transform rail travel in the north, and I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved.”
The campaign will be available to see at stations, onboard trains and also online and will feature improvements such as:
- Northern’s new fleet of trains which will be made up of 100 state-of-the-art trains
- A further 240 Northerns trains have been fully refurbished
- The rail operator’s industry-leading mobility scooter policy
- The roll-out of bodycam units
- Improved CCTV on board trains and in stations
- Car park refurbishments

Once upon a time . . . . concerned individuals, aware individuals, would put out bowls with water for animals – and keep them filled.
It has now to be institutionalised?
‘A better way to go’? How, when Northern are cutting services while other TOC’s are reintroducing theirs to pre covid levels.
