A platform closure at Lichfield Trent Valley station will continue to impact journeys with passengers being advised to plan their travel ahead
Lichfield Trent Valley station’s platform 3 has been closed temporarily due to safety issues, which means that Cross City Line trains heading to Birmingham cannot call there at the moment. The closure of the platform also means that passengers are not able to cross between platforms 1 and 2.
Regular bus services have been put in place between Lichfield Trent Valley and Lichfield City, where passengers can pick up the Cross City Line services. In order to enable passengers to access platforms 1 and 2, a bus service has also been put in place as the alternative walking route is lengthy.
Plans are currently underway with Network Rail to enable the platform to reopen by installing a temporary support structure, however, this is expected to take several weeks to put in place. Initially, the platform was planned for replacement in 2023 and those plans are now under review in order to move the work forward.
Denise Wetton, managing director for Network Rail Central route, said:
“I am sorry for the inconvenience caused but we had to reduce any risk to passengers and put safety first. We are working as quickly as possible to reopen the platform so normal service can resume. Thank you to passengers for their patience.”
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said:
“I would like to thank our passengers for their patience while this important safety work is completed on platform 3 at Lichfield Trent Valley.
“The platform closure affects both Cross City line trains and access to West Coast Main Line services so I would urge passengers to plan ahead and allow extra time.”
