The Yorkshire Wolds Railway is making the final preparations at Fimber Halt for this year’s operating season, which starts at 10 am on Sunday, 17th April and continues every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until 30th October.
During the winter, members have been painting, sanding, building, tracklaying, and everything in-between in readiness to welcome visitors back to the railway.
Visitors can take a cab ride, walk through the visitor centre, or catch up on the ongoing restoration work on the brake van or second locomotive Patricia.
Over the Easter weekend, visitors can also expect something a little different with an Easter Egg hunt with eggs as prizes on both Sunday and Monday, along with offering a limited number of afternoon teas in the wonderful surroundings of the railway’s site at Fimber Halt.
Chairman John Lidster said “our members have kindly dedicated many hours of work both on and off-site to ensure we will be ready and operational. The biggest change for visitors this year is that we are now able to offer cab rides right to the end of field 2 and over the point that was commissioned earlier in the year. For the 2022 season we have also slightly changed our operating hours and are now open from 10 – 4.”
John continued “Access to the visitor centre and car park at Fimber Halt is free and a cab ride is priced at £3.50 per person. We are really fortunate to have such an attraction on our doorstep and I would like to thank all those who continue to support us”
The YWR is currently looking to recruit a health and safety director with operational safety under ORR and HRA guidelines. They are also looking for a lead person for the maintenance and repair of locomotives and rolling stock, ideally someone with previous heritage or mainline railway experience.
There are also usually volunteers on site on most Wednesdays and Saturdays, who will be happy to show what is being done, subject of course to safety requirements.
The photos show volunteers of the YWR taking a well earned rest on the platform at Fimber Halt.
