The East Lancashire Railway has announced that it will be welcoming two Class 20s for the upcoming Summer Diesel Gala.
The two Class 20s, which will come from the LSL Class 20 pool, are to visit courtesy of Locomotive Services Ltd to operate an intensive timetable.
The Two 20s will join the following at the gala:
- Class 14 D9531 ‘Ernest’
- Class 24 D5054 ‘Phil Southern’
- Class 25 25279
- Class 28 D5705 (static display at Bury Bolton Street)
- Class 33 33109 ‘Captain Bill Smith RNR’

- Class 45 45108
- Class 47 47765

The Class 20s spend most of their time on railtours, stock movements and test runs on the mainline network – so this is a good chance to get a ride behind them.
All of these locomotives will be taking part across the three day event, which takes place from 30th June until the 2nd July 2022.
Booking and timetables will be available soon. What do you think to this? Let us know in the comments below.

ELR Galas are always great fun, and a chance for a pint in the Trackside bar and Bufferstops.
The class 20s in question have not yet been confirmed as 20096 and 20107 yet. Actual locos TBC.
Thanks Fabio, seems we misworded what we wanted to say – updated to correct this.
