A lift at station is set to be upgraded by in a bid to make it more reliable to customers with work starting today, Monday the 14th of March.

The lift will see engineers replacing parts in order for it to run smoothly and supporting passengers as they make their way through the managed station.

The work is taking place on the passenger lift on Platform 1 and will mean it will be out of action from Monday the 14th of March through to Monday the 4th of April and will mean that there will be no step-free access to Platforms 4 to 8.

Passengers who need to use the lift and will be arriving or departing from platforms 4 to 8 will need to pre-book assistance ahead via National Rail or their train operators so that alternative transport such as a taxi can be put in place.

Richard Owens, Infrastructure Director for Network Rail’s North & East route, said: “It’s important that we keep our lifts in good working order, so that they can continue to provide a reliable, accessible route for those who rely on step-free access when travelling by train.

“Having a lift out of action is never ideal and I’m sorry to everybody impacted by this work. I’d advise passengers to plan ahead and to pre-book assistance where needed so that they can reach their destinations safely and on time.”

Angie Hunte, TransPennine Express Interim Station Manager for Huddersfield, said: “We want to thank customers using Huddersfield Station for their patience while this important maintenance work takes place and are working closely alongside Network Rail to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Between 14 March and 4 April, we are asking customers requiring step-free access to plan ahead, and allow extra time when making their journeys.”

Customers  who need to use the lift can contact TransPennine Express’s Passenger Assistance team ahead of their journey by calling: 0800 107 2149,  or via WhatsApp texting ‘Assisted Travel’ to 07812 223 336 or online at http://tpexpress.co.uk/help/passenger-assist
