Groups of ten or more people travelling on Trains can now book their travel online and benefit from a discount on standard fares.

Northern is seeking to encourage group travel organisers to travel by train instead of by road. It has a dedicated group travel team that will respond to enquiries within two working days, and will make all arrangements that groups require. The key benefits of making group travel arrangements are:

  • a dedicated team for group bookings;
  • savings of up to 76% for under 16-group travel, such as primary schools, Girl Guides/Scout and sports club;
  • 20% discount on standard fares for groups of 10 adults, making it ideal for conference or business travel, Tour Operators and Travel Agents;
  • higher discounts when travelling at quieter times.

Northern has a network of over 540 stations across the whole of northern England, coast to coast across both sides of the Pennines, down to the , and up to the Borders of .

To benefit from the group travel discount, group travel organisers should visit www.northernrailway.co.uk/tickets/group-travel and submit their enquiry. A quote will be returned within two working days with an easy to use payment link to confirm the booking.

Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “Our network of over 540 stations covers both sides of the Pennines, down to the Midlands and up to the Borders of Scotland. As such, groups looking to explore the region have unrivalled connectivity with Northern.

“For international visitors, who might arrive into London and then travel North to visit historic cities like and or the Lake District National Park, we are working with our partners at Avanti and LNER, who have a role to play in bringing them to our Northern hubs so we can get them out to where they want to be.”
