Meeting points have been set up at Waverley and Central stations to provide a warm welcome to refugees from fleeing the conflict.

To support them, ‘s railway is playing its part by having dedicated staff members on hand at Edinburgh Waverley and between 8 am and 6 pm daily. They will provide information on travel planning, and direct those arriving towards the assistance and resources available from local authorities and the Scottish Government.

Outside the core hours, station teams will be available to help refugees have a safe onward journey.

Train operators are also providing support to Ukrainian arrivals by offering free onward travel to their destination. This scheme complements offers made by the European railway family to provide Ukrainian refugees with safe and free passage.

Ross Moran, Network Rail head of operations for Scotland, said: “We’ve all been shocked and saddened by the tragic circumstances that have driven ordinary people from their homes in Ukraine.

“The meeting points in our two busiest stations will provide those arriving with practical support and advice as they begin life in Scotland or prepare for the next leg of their journey.

“Scotland’s Railway is proud to welcome and support refugees and we stand ready to help in any way we can.”
