The ticket office at Moorfields station in Liverpool has been transformed into a celebration of individuality with a large pair of coloured wings that passengers are encouraged to pose in front of and ‘be who you are’.
As well as the pair of rainbow wings where passengers can get their photo taken for an iconic shot, the office has been adorned with a glitter wall, flamingos, and disco balls.
Moorfields station in Old Hall Street is situated close to Liverpool’s Pride Quarter which is an area within Liverpool City Centre that serves as the main focal point for Liverpool’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
The station is ideally situated for anyone wishing to enjoy an evening out in the area. As such, Merseyrail wanted to celebrate its position within the LGBTQ+ community in a fun and vibrant way, and the decorations were installed at the beginning of March.
Jane English, Merseyrail’s Deputy Managing Director, is calling on all passengers to get involved. She said:
“We are incredibly proud to support the LGBTQ+ community, including being the sponsors of the inaugural Liverpool Pride Awards, taking part in Pride marches, and creating the Merseyrail LGBTQ+ & Allies employee network in 2020.
“We work hard to ensure Merseyrail is inclusive and diverse, as well as making sure that our passengers feel safe when travelling with us and are able to be who they are.
“I can’t wait to see our passengers’ pictures with the wings at Moorfields and would encourage everyone to share their images with us by tagging @Merseyrail in their social media posts.”
