The has a number of vacancies for both paid and staff.

Planning and Compliance Officer

A Planning and Compliance Officer is required who will provide technical administrative support to the railway’s Infrastructure Manager and department.

The successful applicant will support the planning, procurement, and implementation of engineering projects. They will be responsible for maintaining the railway’s Infrastructure Engineering Asset Management Register, and to support the department in ensuring compliance with the PLC Safety Management System.

This role is a permanent paid position of 24 hours per week.

Volunteer Administrative Staff Vacancies, Full or Part Time

The railway is looking to recruit a number of volunteers to undertake a variety of interesting and varied administrative duties at Minehead. These include providing assistance to Directors and managers within the Company.

The positions will suit those with clerical experience in a busy environment, and applicants should be familiar with the use of PCs and spreadsheets.

Some of the positions are for part-time staff, and successful applicants can work days and hours which suit their availability.

The West Somerset Railway is the longest standard gauge independent heritage railway in the United Kingdom. It normally runs 20½ miles from to Minehead, with intermediate stations at Crowscombe Heathfield, Stogumber, , Doniford Halt, Watchet, , Blue Anchor, and Dunster.

During special events, some trains continue a further two miles to Norton Fitzwarren where a connection to Network Rail allows occasional through trains to operate onto the national network.

The railway’s locomotive fleet includes several ex-GWR passenger locomotives and heritage diesel locomotives.
