The Bahamas Locomotive Society has sent RailAdvent an update on a few of its locomotives and pieces of rolling stock.
This follows on from updates sent regarding LMS Jubilee No. 45596 Bahamas and LNWR Coal Tank No. 1054
RS1015/50 Breakdown Crane
A new buffer plank on the north has been made and fitted to the match wagon. The original had been rotting away since BR ownership and was life-expired.
Thanks to help from the KWVR Civils Group, the Bahamas Locomotive Society was able to acquire two Jarrah timbers, so the only cost was a lot of hard work dismantling the old plank and cutting the new timber to size and shape.
The south-end plank has been cut out and drilling but will be more complicated to fit. Cleaning and painting of the exposed steelwork is underway.
The injector on the right hand side has been replaced and the block winch has been repaired. An axlebox cover has been weld repaired, firebox cleaned and boiler drained.
Bahamas Support Coach M41060
The corridor access door that leads to the compartments has been repaired. A new runner wheel has been made and fitted to the sliding door of the second compartment.
The toilet drain pipe has been secured and gutters cleaned. The water system has been drained to protect against frost.
SR Brake Van
Woodwork repairs continued on the SR Brakevan, with two verandah gates approaching completion. The leadscrew for the handbrake has been re-cut and a new nut has been made.
James
James recently had a weekend of excitement as it took part in the KWVR’s Diesel and Mixed Traffic Gala, where it hauled its first ever passenger train from Keighley to Ingrow after being fitted with vacuum brakes.
Some electrical work has been completed and the starting valve seat has been re-cut.
Work by a small team has progress off site to help with restoration of the Crane Tank. A new grate and carriers have been fabricated. The cab roof has been dismantled, measured and new platework has been manufactured.
Palvan
Work by the Carriage and Wagon Department at the KWVR has seen the roof replaced and one side door also replaced with work progressing well. A lot of the bodywork has been painted.
