The There and Back Light Railway has announced that they have made an agreement with Melton Mowbray Town Estate to bring back the Wilton Park Miniature Railway to operational condition.
This will mean that the TBLR will take over day-to-day operation of the 500m long 10.25″ gauge miniature railway.
Dating back to 1968, the railway has been out of use since Mid-2019.
The railways locomotive will be checked over and will be externally restored to its 1968 condition along with a second passenger carriage, which will be reunited with the train.
It is hoped that the railway will be reopened in time for Easter 2022 – more details will be confirmed in due course.
The railway is also looking for volunteers, if you are interested, please get in touch with them via the There and Back Light Railway Facebook page.
A spokesperson for the There and Back Light Railway said “We are delighted to be able to return this little bit of history back to the Town. We hope to have all the work complete in time to reopen the railway amongst much fanfare over Easter weekend 2022, We will have more details on the reopening event over the next few weeks.”
“We will be looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run both the TBLR and the Wilton Park Railway during the 2022 season, if you have every fancied joining us then please get in touch or come and see us this weekend in Melton Play Close Park.”
Finally, we are pleased to confirm that RailAdvent Plus members will get a 25% discount on tickets at the Wilton Park Miniature Railway once it has reopened. More information can be found by clicking here.
