The St. Albans South Signal Box and garden will open on Wednesday the 16th of February for the half-term break

The signal box is usually open to the public on Sundays but will be taking a break in order to facilitate visits during the school half term and will be opening on the 16th of February from 1pm to 4pm.

Entry is free although donations are very much appreciated.

Standing in its original location at the side of the Midland Main Line, the Grade 2 listed 1892 Midland Railway signal box has seen a full restoration carried out by volunteers of the St. Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust.

Since its restoration, the signal box has been open regularly for the public to visit since 2008.

The signal box is positioned with excellent views of the bustling Midland mainline and St. Albans City Station and its gardens feature many signalling artefacts alongside the well-loved garden railway complete with Thomas and Friends.

Tony Furst, Trust Chairman said: “With the ending of many virus restrictions, local families will be looking for things to do during the holiday. So why not spend a few hours watching the trains go by in a safe environment and see the signal box at work.”
