Europhoenix has provided RailAdvent with an update on their Class 91 locomotives.
The Ex-LNER electric locomotives were acquired by Europhoenix back in 2019 with a view to being exported to Bulgaria. However, COVID has put a halt on proceedings.
Talks are still ongoing with operators abroad. The Coronavirus pandemic hit just as the locomotives were being made ready for export, and Europhoenix says that the industry in Europe hasnt yet recovered.
However, although the two Class 91s are currently residing at Barrow Hill, a spokesperson for Europhoenix has told RailAdvent that it is ‘unlikely’ that they will be used in the UK as ‘there just isnt anything for them to do’.
A spokesperson for Europhoenix told RailAdvent “Talks are still ongoing at the moment, as Covid started just as the locos were being made ready for export and the industry in Europe hasn’t yet recovered. It’s very unlikely they will be used in the UK as there just isn’t anything for them to do.”

They should be kept in the UK even just as spare units there brilliant locomotives
How about painting the bogies and everything below the solebar . Looks half done elcheapo .
No, it doesn’t.
The Class 91s shouldn’t be scrapped and some should be preserved and some to be used for freight movements.
It would be nice if they could be kept somewhere for a spare set of Loco’s in case any of the newer ones have a breakdown. Can they not be kept within a rail shed?
I personally think British Trains should stay in Britain
They look cool they should stay in uk europhoenix make some coaches in that liverie for them
I hope these locos find a new home rather than being scrapped. I had a small part in their design in 1988/89.
