Europhoenix has provided RailAdvent with an update on their locomotives.

The Ex-LNER electric locomotives were acquired by Europhoenix back in 2019 with a view to being exported to Bulgaria. However, COVID has put a halt on proceedings.

Talks are still ongoing with operators abroad. The Coronavirus pandemic hit just as the locomotives were being made ready for export, and Europhoenix says that the industry in Europe hasnt yet recovered.

However, although the two Class 91s are currently residing at Barrow Hill, a spokesperson for Europhoenix has told RailAdvent that it is ‘unlikely’ that they will be used in the UK as ‘there just isnt anything for them to do’.

A spokesperson for Europhoenix told RailAdvent “Talks are still ongoing at the moment, as Covid started just as the locos were being made ready for export and the industry in Europe hasn’t yet recovered. It’s very unlikely they will be used in the UK as there just isn’t anything for them to do.”

  1. It would be nice if they could be kept somewhere for a spare set of Loco’s in case any of the newer ones have a breakdown. Can they not be kept within a rail shed?
