The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust has announced that LNER A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley will be run in at the Severn Valley Railway.
Details are still scarce, and still under discussion, but once the streamlined streak has been completed at Locomotive Services in Crewe, we should see 60007 move by road to Kidderminster, where the tests can be completed.
Updating RailAdvent on the overhaul progress at Crewe, Trevor Camp said that the steam pipes are now in and the front is being reassembled.
Once this is complete, a hydraulic test can take place.
This is great news for A4 fans as it means we are approaching a time when we can once again enjoy the sights and sounds of an A4 on the mainline.
A spokesperson for The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust told RailAdvent “The steam pipes are in and the front is being reassembled, we will then carry out the hydraulic test. We can confirm that it is our plan to run-in at the SVR but details are still under discussion.”
Work is still required on 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, and donations are still required to get the locomotive back on the mainline.
