The operator of the Paris Metro, RATP, has renewed its contract with Hitachi Rail for the maintenance of the Paris Metro and tramway networks.
The contract is worth €33m and is a continuation of Hitachi Rail’s historic partnership with the Paris Metro going back more than 100 years.
Hitachi Rail has provided maintenance services for RATP since 1913, and works to ensure 24/7 availability of transport every day for millions of passengers in Ile-de-France. This contract continues the historic partnership between the Paris Metro and Hitachi Rail’s French subsidiary since the launch of the very first metro, more than a century ago.
The contract covers preventive and corrective maintenance of signalling devices and installations on the nine lines of the Paris Metro and seven tramway lines that are operated by RATP.
Hitachi’s scope of work also includes providing assistance to RATP for track work. Hitachi Rail’s maintenance teams will operate 24/7 to ensure the reliability of the daily journeys of millions of commuters and visitors in the heart of the city of Paris.
Gilles Pascault, President of Hitachi Rail in France, said “This contract is proof of RATP’s confidence in the services and technologies deployed by Hitachi Rail to contribute to sustainable urban mobility projects in Ile-de-France. Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, Hitachi Rail’s teams remain determined and committed to partnering with their client to provide maintenance services that meet the highest standards, to ensure the continuity, reliability and safety of transport for essential workers every day.”
