TransPennine Express (TPE) will reintroduce a two-hourly service from Manchester to Glasgow, and when combined with the current Manchester to Edinburgh services, will provide an hourly service from the North West to Carlisle and Scotland.
The rail operator will be increasing the number of services just in time for the festive season and will start from Sunday the 12th of December 2021
Customers are being advised to plan ahead of the changes and check before travelling via the TPE website or National Rail Enquiries.
Alongside the new service, a Nova 1 (Class 802) trains will be making its debut on the West Coast Main Line and will join the Nova 2 fleet which operates between the North West and Scotland.
The Nova 1 and 2 trains bring an enhanced travel experience for customers providing spacious interiors with plenty of legroom, free Wi-Fi for both Standard and First Class alongside access to TPE’s onboard entertainment system, Exstream.
Passengers travelling can be confident with TPE’s enhanced cleaning in place to keep everyone safe. Face coverings are now a mandatory requirement on board trains and at stations unless exempt.
Tickets can be purchased online at the TPE website or via the TPExpress App which gives customers the choice of paying with Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. E-tickets are also available for customers to use on their phone instead of a paper ticket.
Jerry Farquharson, Service Planning Director for TransPennine Express said: “With more and more people returning to rail and the festive season just around the corner, the reintroduction of an hourly TPE service between the North West and Scotland is great news for customers.
“Services on this route are very popular and I would encourage those intending to travel by train to plan their journeys in advance and book ahead.”
