The GWR 813 Preservation Fund is asking for donations following unexpected replacement work which had to be carried out on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) in November 2021.
Following a 10 yearly overhaul being completed back in 2016, Great West Railway (GWR) 0-6-0 Saddle Tank No.813 has seen five years in traffic operating across the country, spending most of it’s time at the SVR.
Unfortunately steam leaking from the boiler tubes was noticed during the recent SVR Autumn Steam Gala, leading to engine being withdrawn from service and inspection carried out.
On examination a full re-tube of the boiler was advised to return the locomotive back to traffic.
This work has now been completed by the SVR, costing the 813 Fund £9,000.
With these costs being unexpected by the 813 Fund, they are now seeking donations towards the costs of repair.
Donations of any sized are welcomed and greatly appreciated, putting the Fund in a better position to ensure future work can be carried out.
