London North Eastern Railway is advising passengers to defer travelling until Monday and onwards as extreme weather moves in courtesy of Storm Arwen.
Passengers booked to travel on either Friday 26th November, Saturday 27th November, or Sunday 28th November 2021 are being advised to defer travelling, with ticket acceptance in place on LNER services on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th November and Wednesday 1st December.
Lumo has confirmed that it has cancelled all of its services on Saturday 27th November.
Emergency Speed Restrictions have been put in place as conditions begin to impact the East Coast Main Line.
The East Coast Main Line between of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh Waverley will close to trains from 5pm today (Friday 26th November 2021). Network Rail says that the West Coast Main Line will remain open for cross-border travel.
The North Berwick Branch Line will also close from 5 pm on Friday.
Services which operate will have extended journey times with cancellations and delays expected
Warrick Dent, LNER Safety and Operations Director, said: “We are encouraging our customers with tickets dated for today, 26 November and this coming weekend, to defer their travel arrangements where possible.
“We expect services to be extremely busy throughout the weekend and advise customers to check our website and social channels for the latest information.”
Alex Hynes, managing director of Scotland’s Railway, said: “Safety of our customers and colleagues has to be our first consideration during severe weather. The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning. We are monitoring the conditions very closely and will have teams in place across the country to react quickly to any damage caused by the weather.
“Where conditions are predicted to be most severe, we are withdrawing a small number of services in the interests of passenger safety until the worst of the storms have passed.”

I know its Storm Arwen related but I think that LNER should introduce a new service from London King’s Cross to Scarborough using Class 800 Bi-Mode Azumas.
Remember the days when the railway would always try to get through whatever the weather? And people call them the ‘bad old days’ of the nationalised system!
