With over 175,000 bookings already made for the Christmas period for journeys between the 22nd of December and the 4th of January 2022, rail travel is already proving extremely popular this year.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) operate cross-border services to and from Scotland and this surge in the sale of festive tickets suggests that people are looking to travel by train to spend time with family, friends and loved ones this Christmas.
David Horne, Managing Director at LNER said:
“After the lockdown of last year, this Christmas is likely to be extra special for many people as they reunite with family and friends following the easing of Covid restrictions. We are delighted to be helping people make those memorable trips, and we’re urging anyone still looking to travel to book as soon as possible as tickets are selling quickly. We’re also recommending customers reserve their seats so they can travel in comfort for the duration of their journey.”
Through the Christmas period, passengers are recommended to arrive early at their station and allow extra time for boarding, LNER also ask that people limit their luggage to what can be carried for services on the East Coast route due to anticipated demand through this time.
Passengers requiring extra assistance are also asked to contact LNER’s Assisted Travel team in advance.
LNER is advising passengers to book via their website (link below) or using the new LNER app to find the best fares and live journey updates, seat reservations can be made free of charge and there are also no booking fees.
Anyone signing up for LNER’s loyalty scheme LNER Perks can benefit from a £5 credit for registering and earn 2% credit on bookings to spend on future journeys, donate to a partner charity or gift as an e-Voucher.
Family tickets are also available for many destinations and provide excellent value with fixed price all-in-one return fares for two adults and up to four children.
Passengers are reminded to wear a face-covering onboard trains and at LNER stations wherever possible and that face coverings remain a mandatory requirement in Scotland.
Onboard passengers can enjoy LNER’s excellent hospitality with complimentary refreshments in First Class and at-seat ordering in Standard using LNER’s Let’s Eat At Your Seat service.
Passengers can travel with confidence as LNER continues with record levels of enhanced cleaning both on board trains and at LNER managed stations.
