On Friday 12th November, England plays Albania at Wembley in a World Cup qualifying match.

is advising passengers travelling to the match to make sure that they plan their journey in advance, and to check the availability of services.

Customers who do not have tickets for the match, or who are travelling to the designated fan zone at Arena Square, are advised to download the Chiltern Railways App or visit Chiltern’s website to check seating availability on their train before they travel.

Although Chiltern Railways will be providing additional seats on trains before the match, it is expected that demand for travel by train will be high.

Chiltern requests that travellers give respect to other passengers, and maintain social distancing wherever possible.

As the match does not start until 19:45, passengers will be unable to travel north of Banbury on their return journey. Passengers who wish to travel north after the match should check their train times in advance, or make arrangements to stay overnight near Wembley.

Customers are advised to:

  • Travel during quieter times where possible
  • Go online or download the Chiltern App to access the latest travel information and to book tickets.
  • Use contactless payments and avoid paying with cash at stations.
  • Maintain social distancing from passengers and staff in stations and onboard trains.
  • Respect those who wish to wear face coverings at stations and onboard public transport.
  • Regularly wash their hands before and after their journey.
  • Stay home if they feel unwell

  1. Great opportunity for a coach operator to offer post match transport northbound, maybe from a station further up the line.

I suspect that if Thomas ableman was still involved with Chilterns he would have considered this, selling tickets through Chultern website as a sort of rail replacement bus service.
