Tyne and Wear Metro have joined forces with Shields Ferry to provide affordable family travel with free travel for children all day, every day this half term and beyond.
As many as three children age 11 and younger can travel for free when they are travelling with a fare-paying adult.
Metro has already introduced free days out for children when traveling with their parents or grandparents with over 60,000 children benefitting from the generous deal.

Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said: “You can take your kids for free on Metro and the Shields Ferry, and that is our permanent promise.
“We’re delighted at the number of families making the most of this offer on the services we operate. Take the Kids for Free is the biggest change we’ve ever made in our ticketing offer, and we wanted to be a key part of helping families get back out and about, in an extremely affordable way.
“Our free travel promise applies all day, every day, and as schools finish for their half-term break we’re reminding people of the opportunities Metro provides as a great value way of enjoying the attractions in our region.
“We also hope Take the Kids For Free has welcomed some brand new customers to Metro, who continue to enjoy the convenience, great value and sustainability of public transport, as well as great days out with their families.”
Fare paying adults have to be aged 18 and over and be holding a valid ticket or validated smart card to benefit from the offer. Children travelling alongside do not need to have a ticket which will also make life a lot easier as well as cheaper.
