The 21st Anniversary of the Hatfield rail disaster will be commemorated on the 17th of October, with LNER joining members of the railway family and the local community.

The tragic disaster happened on the 17th October 2000 at 12:23 when a GNER InterCity 225 train left London King’s Cross heading for Leeds and derailed at Hatfield in Hertfordshire.

Four people sadly lost their lives and over 70 people were injured.

The memorial service will take place at Hatfield Church on Sunday the 17th of October 2021 at midday.

Father Darren Collins will lead the service, which is expected to last around 45 minutes and will include a silence at 12:23 which is the time the incident happened.

A train horn close to Hatfield will sound to mark the end of the silence.

A live stream of the event will also be held via the St Etheldreda with St Luke, Hatfield Parish Facebook page.
