Steam locomotive to pass through Rochester and Gillingham this Wednesday

Steam locomotive 35028 Clan Line will be back in steam on the mainline, and will be in Gillingham and Rochester on Wednesday 15th September 2021.

The Merchant Navy locomotive is on a special railtour with 35028 hauling ‘The Man of Kent’ railtour on Wednesday.

The railtour will depart Newport at 05:40 behind diesel locomotives and will pass through Chepstow (06:00, Lydney (06:13), Gloucester (06:38), Stonehouse (06:55), Stroud (07:04), Kemble (07:23), Swindon (07:41), Didcot Parkway (08:07), Reading (08:25), Maidenhead (08:40), Southall (09:05), Acton Main Line (09:13), and Kensington Olympia at 09:32 before 35028 Clan Line is added to the train at Battersea Loop.

From Battersea Loop, Clan line will pass through Brixton (10:23), Denmark Hill (10:34), Bellingham (10:47), Bromley South (10:59), Swanley (11:11), Rochester (11:37), Gillingham (11:42), Rainham (11:46), Newington (11:50), Sittingbourne (11:56), Faversham (12:05), and Margate at 12:35.

The return trip will depart Margate at 15:20 and will then pass through Ramsgate (15:29), Dover Priory (16:14), Folkestone Central (16:48), Ashford International (17:06), Paddock Wood (17:34), Tonbridge (18:04), Seven Oaks (18:15), Orpington (18:25), Bromley South (18:41), Brixton (18:58), West Brompton (19:11), Kensington Olympia (19:15) and Acton TC at 19:33.

Here the diesels take back over from Clan Line. The diesels will take the railtour back to Newport via Reading (20:50), Didcot Parkway (21:16), Swindon (21:51), Kemble (22:10), Stroud (22:30), Stonehouse (22:39), Gloucester (22:58), Lydney (23:20), Chepstow (23:32) and Newport at 23:52.
