Porterbrook donates Class 43 locomotive to Crewe Heritage Centre

Crewe Heritage Centre has been donated HST Power Car No. 43081, the second Class 43 to be preserved at the museum.

Porterbrook, the locomotive’s owner  whilst in service with East Midlands Railway / East Midlands Trains, has donated the power car to the heritage centre.

43081 was the 8,000th locomotive to be built at Crewe Works, being completed in March 1978.

The power car arrived at on Monday 13th September, with plans to restore the locomotive underway – it also coincided with the 45th anniversary of the first High-Speed Train being put into passenger service.

Amongst other attractions, such as a Class 47, Class 03, T-68 Manchester Tram, and a Mark 3 DVT, 43081 joins 43018 at Crewe Heritage Centre, with 43018 being restored into Intercity 125 Yellow and Blue livery.

  1. Another Jolly Exciting Highlight of the year 2021… Amazing to think an ex-British Rail Intercity 125 Power Car (whose number is 43081),

    Exactly more than 40 years after being the 8,000th locomotive to be built at Crewe Works in March 1978… would become an addition to Crewe Heritage Centre within Preservation, not far from where ti had been built.
