Transport for Wales has announced that the introduction of additional train services between Wrexham and Bidston will now take place in 2022.
Originally planned for December 2021, the two train per hour service will now take place in spring 2022, by May 2022 at the latest.
The delays are due to staff training requirements and these have been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
New Class 230 trains are planned for the line in 2022, having previously undergone testing.
Infrastructure works are to be completed at Wrexham Central, with an additional 11 metres of platform being installed.
Work has also been carried out at Wrexham General on Platform 1.
Lee Robinson, Development Director for Mid, North and Rural Wales said: “The last 17 months has been extremely challenging, not only in navigating our way through a global pandemic but also continuing to work towards our vision for a more integrated transport network across North Wales and the English borders.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming the new rolling stock to the Wrexham to Bidston line and improving how we work with our communities to ensure we’re listening to what the people of North Wales and the borderlands need, whilst also delivering on our commitments.”
