Study finds Ffestiniog Railway to be one of most cost-effective attractions

New research from Money.co.uk has revealed the best and worst value attractions in the UK, with the coming in the top 15 best value attactions.

The research was based on the quality of reviews vs cost of admission and found Salisbury Cathedral to be named the best value attraction in the UK.

However, the worst value attraction, based on the research was the newly opened Marble Arch Mound, which costs visitors £6.50 and has 85.7% bad reviews.

The Ffestiniog Railway came in 13th place, which takes passengers on a 13.5 mile journey through the Snowdonia National Park from the port at to the once Slate Capital Of The World, Blaenau Ffestiniog.

A ticket for the Ffestiniog Railway varies based on the current ticketing system, but the railway line received just 1.31% bad reviews, meaning out of 10, the Ffestiniog Railway scored 9.67 on the Value Score.

Its also nice to see the Bekonscot Model Village feature on the list, scoring a value score of 9.83 out of 10.

No heritage railways feature in the top 15 WORST value attractions, which features six attractions in London, with London Zoo, London Dungeon and Buckingham Palace making the list.

These scores were compiled using a range of reviews using TripAdvisor or Google Reviews and was then cross-referenced using the total number of reviews to provide a percentage of bad reviews. The Value Score was calculated by comparing the cost of a ticket vs the percent of bad reviews.

The UK’s top attractions were compiled by using a range of articles and lists of top attractions in the UK. The ‘bad’ ratings of each attraction were then scraped from TripAdvisor (or when TripAdvisor wasn’t available, then Google Reviews) and cross-referenced with the total number of reviews. This provided the % of bad reviews number.
