Steam locomotive 60163 Tornado will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Ribblehead on Wednesday 11th August 2021.

The LNER A1 locomotive is on a section of a special railtour with 60163 Tornado hauling The Northern Belle.

The tour starts from Crewe behind diesel locomotives. Departing Crewe at 09:28, the train will pass through Warrington Bank Quay (09:51), Wigan North Western (10:00), Preston (10:15) before arriving into Carnforth North Junction at 10:44.

Here, 60163 Tornado is added to the train. Departing here at 11:24, the steam train will make its way through Oxenholme Lake District (11:39), Tebay (11:54), Penrith North Lakes (12:16) and Carlisle at 12:37.

After around 90 minutes in Carlisle, 60163 will depart at 14:19 and will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:46), Appleby (15:06), Garsdale (15:43), Ribblehead (15:55), Hellifield (16:20), where Tornado is replaced by a diesel locomotive, Clitheroe (17:46), Whalley (17:53), Blackburn (18:09), Preston (18:27), Wigan North Western (18:55), Warrington Bank Quay (19:09) and Crewe at 19:50.
