ScotRail has announced that it has reintroduced First Class on board its trains.
Following the easing of restrictions in Scotland on the 9th August, ScotRail has reintroduced First Class on its Inter7City HSTs and its Class 385s from today, 23rd August.
The operator had to remove First Class during the height of the pandemic to allow any passengers to sit in the carriages to help social distancing.
As part of the reintroduction, passengers travelling with standard class tickets can upgrade whilst onboard, all for £3, any day of the week until the 30th of September 2021.
Catering is still not available onboard Inter7City and Express trains, meaning complimentary food and drink is not available, but the operator is working towards reintroducing this feature.
Inter7City trains operate on long-distance that connects Scotland’s seven cities, whilst Class 385s operate between Glasgow Queen Street High Level and Edinburgh Waverley.
Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to reintroduce our First Class offering onboard our trains. It is a big step on the road to recovery as we continue to welcome more customers back to the railway.
“However, the way customers travel is changing, and we need to adapt in order to best support them. That’s why we’re running a promotion, until the end of September, which allows customers to take advantage of a First Class upgrade for just £3 on all our Inter7City and Express services.”
