The Swanage Railway has announced the return of their Taster Driver Experience courses, where you can take the controls of a steam locomotive and drive along the line.
Looking for the perfect gift for that special person, or keen to learn to drive a steam engine on an 11 mile, one-hour round trip through the beautiful Dorset coastline, then the Swanage Railway has the right experience for you.
Starting your experience with an introduction, the footplate crew will guide you through each step of preparing, starting and driving that you need to know to drive and fire the locomotive.
Starting out at Swanage Station, you’ll head down the line, passing Corfe Castle Station, on your way to Norden Station. Here you’ll ‘run around’ your train (switch ends) before working your way back to Swanage, swapping over to either driving or firing, depending on which role you started with. With a friendly and experienced crew with you the whole time, you can learn much about the engines and railway. On finishing the course, you will receive a Swanage Railway goody bag, which includes a framed certificate and a Swanage Railway Driver Experience mug, along with photo opportunities at both Swanage and Norden Station.
