London North Eastern Railway (LNER) have announced they have made train tickets all the way up to early next year available to book.
After last year in 2020 saw majority of people having to stay at home or only gather in small numbers, LNER has seen much interest online for booking trains around the 2021 festive period, with many families and people looking to spend Christmas with loved ones this year. To meet demand and allow people to plan and book ahead, LNER has now made tickets available to book from now to early January 2022.
Overall, LNER has seen big growth in both searches on their website and actual passenger numbers. Currently around 200,000 journeys are being searched on LNER’s website, almost meeting pre-covid searches.
Passenger numbers are presently at roughly 90% of pre-covid levels and rising, with LNER anticipating numbers to raise to pre-covid levels over this upcoming winter. The nature of the route LNER serve means they will see high demand from people travelling to see loved ones and holidays to city locations.

LNER Managing Director David Horne said: “Over the past couple of months we have seen signs that leisure rail travel is on the rebound, with our long-distance services becoming busier than they have been in the past 18 months.
“The fact that the number of customers planning journeys on the LNER website is almost equal to that of our pre-pandemic numbers is hugely promising. We’re pleased to see that customers are feeling confident to travel by rail and we’re excited to host people who are looking to explore the East Coast route this winter.
“Whether they are planning to go ice skating in Edinburgh, Christmas shopping in Newcastle, heading to the Christmas Festival in York or seeing the Christmas lights in Leeds there is something for everyone to experience after the disappointment of last Christmas. We hope that our customers can
feel secure when making bookings with us and that planning ahead will give them something to look forward to in the coming months.”
