A local group to the Newcastle area has been supporting those who have experienced loss during the pandemic and have traded sunny foreign trips for walks and coffee mornings.
The group called Embark2, have been walking along some paths between Metro stations and has been lending a hand to keeping the Nexus website up to date in the meantime.
38 walks from stations on the Tyne & Wear Metro have detailed directions and range from 2 to 9 miles in length.
You can find details about the walks here on the Nexus website.
John Webb, Founder of Embark2 said: “We provide support for anyone who has experienced the loss of a partner and offer opportunities to meet up, usually weekends away and holidays, where we can share our experiences of grief and remaking our lives. As part of our Wellness initiative during the pandemic, we are running a series of short walks between some Metro stations.
“The walks are easy to follow and usually include somewhere to stop for a coffee. Our members have enjoyed the opportunity to get out and about once restrictions allowed.”
Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said: “There’s lots of different ways our customers use Metro, whether it’s for getting to work or education or to access social activities. The Metro Walks were developed a few years ago to encourage people to use the network to explore new places, knowing they will finish at a Metro station to get them home easily too.
“It’s great that the walks are still being used and providing ideas for wellbeing activities during the pandemic, and it’s an added bonus for us that John and his group are very helpfully letting us know of any changes we need to make to our website pages.”
