The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust have published their June 2021 update on constructing their new build steam locomotive, British Railways (BR) Standard Class 3 Tank No.82045.

A key milestone is due to be accomplished soon, with work on building both the leading and trailing pony trucks almost complete.

A lot of work has been carried out over the past few years to develop both trucks from design to manufacturing parts.

Both trucks differ in design, with the leading truck following the same design as used on No.80079 (BR Standard Class 4 Tank) and No.43106 (London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Ivatt Class 4), with both these engines being based at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR).

The trailing truck followers a design used only the Standard 2 and 3 tanks, with working with the group producing a new build BR Standard Class 2, 84030, at the Bluebell Railway.

On the boiler, sections of the outer firebox are starting to be bolted together to trial fit each panel to see if they line up correctly. Machining of the slide bar is currently being carried out, with the bolt holes being counter bored.
