A ‘Vaccine Van’ will be available at station for passengers and passers-by to get their Covid vaccination using the pop-up service.

The service which is run by local NHS staff from and Solihull were giving Pfizer vaccinations yesterday (Thursday 15th July 2021) to those over 18 years of age.

The van was located on the station’s Easter Plaza right next to the outdoor picnic area and was open from 9 am to 6 pm.

The vaccine van will also be back in the same spot on:

  • Saturday the 17th of July
  • Friday the 23rd of July
  • Saturday the 24th of July

The inventive idea for the vaccine van came to fruition as a need was identified to give access to those within the local community who find it difficult to get access to a vaccination centre.

The service is primarily aimed at those who haven’t had their first jab yet but it is also possible to get your second dose too as long as a minimum of eight weeks has passed since the first vaccine was given.

People are being encouraged to take up the offer of a vaccine to protect themselves and other people. Research shows that vaccines reduce the risk of getting seriously ill or dying from Covid-19 and also cut the risk of catching or spreading Covid-19.

Steven Ireland, ‘s head of customers and stations, said: “It’s great to work with the local NHS to use Birmingham New Street station as a pop-up site for COVID vaccinations. I’d urge passengers and passers-by to make use of the vaccine van when it’s at the station to have their jab, to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Morag Gates, COVID programme director for Birmingham and Solihull, said: “We know that people are eager to get back to doing the things they enjoy, such as travelling and going out with their friends and family, and we want people to do it safely. That’s why we are doing everything we can to ensure that everyone over 18 can get their jab.

“Having the vaccination is the most effective way of protecting ourselves and others from the virus, so we would strongly encourage anyone who has yet to have their jab to turn up to one of our mobile vaccine vans at New Street Station.”
