The Heritage Trust (WSRHT) has announced that they have recruited a new Trustee to join their board.

Martin Brown has joined the board of trustees, and has a long working career in the railway industry. His wealth of knowledge and experience will be greatly beneficial to the Trust, and the wider railway.

One of Martin’s previous job roles was Health and Safety Director with Tube Lines (London Underground Maintenance), along with similar roles at Docklands Light Railway and London Overground and Crossrail. Martin also holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Relations. Through these companies and others, he has worked with both the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectorate (HMRI).

For the WSRHT, Martin, with the assistance of former Chairman Chris Austin, will take on responsibility for the restoration of heritage carriage collection, owned and maintained by the Trust.

Acting Chairman of the WSRHT Steve Williams commented: “I am delighted to welcome Martin to the Board of Trustees, and this continues our policy of bringing in experienced professionals in many areas who can add significant value to the work of the Trust. I am confident that Martin can bring a significant contribution to our future activities as we seek to develop a strong heritage experience for our visitors to the railway, bringing in both experienced professionals and existing volunteers”.

Martin Brown commented: ‘‘I am really pleased to be joining the Trust. It’s work in heritage restoration, and educational work lies at the heart of how we can make the railway more central to the community and engage more fully with people of all ages and backgrounds. We have so much to offer, and I really hope I can help realise this.”

About the West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust

Based on the West Somerset Railway, the WSRHT seeks to educate people on the history of the former railway activities in the West Somerset area. This is achieved through preserving rolling stock and artefacts, which can either be seen running on railways like the West Somerset Railway or at the Trust’s Great Western Railway (GWR) Museum.
