The Wensleydale Railway is asking for your help as a matter of urgency to try and save ex-Transport for Wales and ex-Tyne and Wear PTE Class 143 Pacer unit 143623.
The railway needs to raise funds quickly to save the unit and also to confirm with the leasing company that they can take on the pacer.
The railway has been successful in acquiring the unit and wants to complete their set of 142/3/4 classes of pacer trains to be the only railway in the country with a complete set.Â
Covid restrictions over the past 18 months have prevented WR from running a rail tour which was intended to raise funds to cover some or all of the cost of moving the unit.
Unfortunately, this has been impossible and now route restrictions may also prevent the rail move for the preservation of the unit.
The Wensleydale Railway is asking for people to help out by donating whatever they can to try and support the preservation of 143623.
In return for supporting the appeal, people donating over £20 will be invited to the inaugural run of this unit in service on the Bedale to Scruton service.
Anyone donating £50 will receive the same trip plus a run to Redmire when the Wensleydale Railway reopens with a free pint of Nodding Donkey Ale.
If you are a fan of pacers, this is a great chance to support heritage railways and create a full set in preservation.
To donate towards the appeal, please visit the Wensleydale Railway website.

If they can’t afford to move it to site, either they’re on the edge of being the next Llangollen or they clearly can’t afford to maintain it – or both.
