MAJOR DISRUPTION: Explosion as 70 firefighters at major fire near London railway station

A fire at a business near to station means that trains are unable to run through the station.

Trains between Blackfriars, Denmark Hill and Herne Hill cannot run and may be cancelled or delayed.

Emergency services are currently on site, with a spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade saying “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are attending a fire at railway arches near to Elephant and Castle railway station. Please avoid the area and close all doors and windows”

Ticket acceptance is in place with on any route, Southeastern via any reasonable route, Southern via any route, Trams between Wimbledon and East Croydon and South Western Railway between Wimbledon and London Waterloo.

Thameslink says that it will attempt to run services via alternative routes.

Trains between Sevenoaks and Blackfriars will divert to London Victoria after Denmark Hill. London Underground can be used to complete journeys.

St Albans to Sutton services will attempt to operate between Streatham and Sutton and Southern services can be used in the local area.

A spokesperson for National Rail Enquiries said “As a safety precaution trains will be held at location or diverted away from the area until further notice, we will update you as we receive more information.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said “There are significant road closures in place and the public are advised to avoid the area. The incident is not believed to be terror-related.”

  1. I think it could be fire on the live DC 750v 3rd Rail that would of caused the fire. But I don’t want to speculate on it. Does look very serious. Hope that everyone is ok.
