Network Rail and Chiltern Railways have confirmed that Gerrards Cross Station has undergone a series of upgrades to improve the station for passengers.
Located in Network Rail‘s North West and Central, Gerrards Cross Station was built in April 1906 by the Great Western Railway (GWR).
Following assessments and examination of Gerrards Cross, the decision was made to modernise the station as part of a £2.4m Railway Upgrade Plan investment by Network Rail.
Worked carried out by Network Rail between March to June 2021 includes:
- Full replacement of the platform’s canopy – ensuring passengers are protected from the weather
- Installing lighting throughout – making the station safer and more secure
- Re-roofing of the main station’s roof
- Windows repairs where necessary
- Applying fresh coats of paint to steelwork
Restoration work took into consideration the heritage character of the station to maintain it where possible. Passengers can now benefit from these improvements when they use for travel using Gerrards Cross Stations.
Scheme Project Manager for Network Rail Lawrence James said: “We take great care to look after our heritage buildings and the work at Gerrards Cross shows how we’re building back better as the country emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.
“This Railway Upgrade Plan investment of £2.4m we hope will make a huge difference for people who use Gerrards Cross station, creating a cleaner and brighter environment and improving their journeys for years to come.”
Chiltern Railways Commercial and Customer Strategy Director, Eleni Jordan said: “Chiltern Railways are committed to improving our stations and continuously strive to provide our customers with a first-class customer experience.
“Working in collaboration with Network Rail, the work at Gerrards Cross will make a big difference to our customers by creating a brighter and better station while ensuring we maintain the station’s heritage. We hope that our customers will be pleased with the refurbishment work that has taken place.”
