Austin steam locomotive arrives in Midsomer Norton ahead of Mixed Traffic Gala.

The Somerset & Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton has announced that tickets can be purchased for their Mixed Traction Gala this July, the line’s biggest gala to date!

The railway, run by the Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust, will have engines working over the three-day gala.

The gala starts on Friday the 2nd of July and ends on Sunday the 4th of July 2021.

Locomotives in service over the three days, including one visiting engine, are as follows:

  1. Kitson Works No.5459 Austin 1 0-6-0ST (visiting engine) – will haul four trains each day, 11 am Freight train, 11:35 am passenger train, 2:45 pm passenger train and the 4:15 passenger train (a triple header!) – coming from the Llangollen Railway. Austin 1 appears in her new livery for the first time.
  2. Sentinel Works No.7109 Joyce 0-4-0 VBGT 
  3. British Railways (BR) Class 03 No.D2128 
  4. BR Class 08 No.D4095

On the weekends the four engines will haul five passengers trains at 10:00am, 11:35am, 1:10pm, 2:45pm and 4:15pm and four freight trains at 11:00am, 12:35pm, 2:10pm, and 3:25pm.

Both the shop and buffet at Midsomer Norton Station will be open from 10 am to 3.30 pm. COVID safety measures will be enforced across the railway, such as one-way systems. Signage and staff will guide you and explain what to do.
