The Small Loco Group, based at Nene Valley Railway (NVR), has announced that they will receive a £20,000 grant from the Association for Industrial Archaeology (AIA) towards the overhaul of Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST No.1539 “Derek Crouch”.
This is brilliant news for the Group and will allow them to progress quickly with the ongoing overhaul of Derek Crouch taking place at Wansford Locomotive Shed on the Nene Valley Railway.
Derek Crouch has not run for at least 30 years. However, the loco has a lot to offer the NVR, carrying out a variety of duties.
The aim is to have the locomotive back in steam in time for its 100th birthday, and the 50th anniversary of passenger trains at the Nene Valley Railway, in 2024.
Derek Crouch hauled the NVR’s first passenger train back in April 1974, making its return a very special occasion.
