Track replacement will be taking place on the c2c network between and Shoeburyness in June, which says will improve reliability.

Work will take place between Fenchurch Street and at weekends in June and July up until Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th, with work including:

  • One and a half miles of rail replaced
  • 40 new catchpits, 180 new drainage pipes, 1000 tonnes of stone will all be installed.
  • 1700 concrete sleepers and 4,500 tonnes of ballast will be replaced

The work will take place on 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th June and 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th July.

Follow up work will take place on the 14th and 15th August.

Like roads, the railway track is worn by the use of trains and engineers have been working recently in the area to improve track condition.

Network Rail’s route managing director for Anglia, Ellie Burrows, said: “We’re replacing track and installing new drainage systems between London and Barking in order to keep services running safely and to minimise delays on this line. We can only carry out this work when trains aren’t running and have planned this in at the weekend when fewer people travel.

“I advise passengers to check before they travel and thank everyone for their patience while the work takes place.”

  1. Perhaps Network Rail should start replacing the overhead wires between Bromley-by-Bow near West Ham and Fenchurch Street as they are getting old and needs replacing.
