The 4253 Locomotive Company Ltd have posted their April 2021 update on two Great Western Railway steam locomotives.
GWR 5600 Class (0-6-2T) No. 5668
The team has continued on with restoring the driver’s side water tank throughout April. This has involved one member of the team squeezing inside the tank to take measurements and mark up for drilling holes, hundreds over the last month alone!
A new steel plate has been purchased and delivered to be fitted in replacement of wasted or damaged sections.
Around the base of the lifting eye, the plating is being doubled up to ensure the area is strong enough and does not fail. Welding and bolting new sections of edging have also taken place.
GWR 4200 Class No.4253
Recent work has seen an old bush pushed out to allow for a new one to be fitted at a later date.
Contractors Sciss Water Jetting of Staplehurst have been cutting out a new coupling rod, which once completed will be machined.
