The locomotive roster for the upcoming First Hurrah Gala at the Great Central Railway will have to make some alterations after a blackbird was found with its eggs in the cab of 45305 Alderman A E Draper.
The black 5 locomotive now has a nest on the manifold of the cab and has eggs waiting to hatch little birds soon.
Staff are keeping a close eye on the locomotive and mum to make sure that the birds are not disturbed.
A replacement locomotive is to be announced in the next few days.
The First Hurrah Gala is due to take place on the 5th and 6th June 2021 and is the first major event of the year for the Great Central Railway after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A little bird told me it might be worth a look!
Black 5s were unnamed prior to the New Steam era. What’s the background to naming this locomotive and the particular name?
