The 4253 Locomotive Company Ltd have posted an update on work being carried out on Great Western Railway (GWR) 5600 (0-6-2T) Class No.5668 and 4200 (2-8-0T) Class No.4253 on the Kent & East Sussex Railway.
5668
Recent work on 5668 has seen the team rebuild the side water tanks for the engine. Lining up and drilling holes for the top angles is in progress, followed by fixing the top capping strip.
Similar work is being carried out on the rear top panel. To strengthen the lifting eyes, a doubling plate has been marked up, cut, trial fitted and finally welded into place.
4253
Focus on 4253 has been completing the ashpan watering system. The remaining pipework has been formed, allowing for the system to be set up and a hose attached for testing. The tests were successful, allowing the jets to be welded at the correct angles.
Off-site at Heritage Boiler Steam Services Ltd (HBSS), who are restoring the boiler, welding work on the backhead has been completed. Work has started on side wrapping by fitting sections.
