From next week on-train duties for ticket examiners, and conductors will resume on train services.

Monday 26th April will see the return of checking and selling tickets as things return to normal for passengers as lockdown restrictions are eased.

The changes should help reduce anti-social behaviour as they walk through the trains and help keep them clean and tidy.

Spot fraud checks will be carried out by British Transport Police and ScotRail teams to make sure passengers are paying the correct fare for their journey.

To help with social distancing and ticket checks, passengers are being encouraged to buy tickets in advance with the ScotRail app or station ticket machines.

The number of services on ScotRail will be increased from Sunday 16th May.

Passengers are reminded that face coverings should still be worn and to social distance by one metre.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said:  “We are absolutely committed to the health and well-being of our staff and passengers, so there has been a massive effort to ensure the on-train environment is safe to give people peace of mind when travelling.

“The visible presence of ScotRail staff throughout trains is critically important for customers, and its return is a welcome step in the recovery of the railway.

“But, it’s also vital our passengers remember they have a responsibility to each other, and our staff, to observe our rules for safer travel until COVID-19 restrictions are completely lifted.

“Customers are being reminded to buy tickets in advance of travel via the ScotRail app, website, or station facilities. It is a requirement to hold a valid ticket before boarding a train, and we will be increasing the frequency of our checks to make sure customers are playing their part.”

Perhaps they should more extra trains including to be used on the Fife Circle Lines, Glasgow South Western Line and they could ask Hitachi to manufacture extra Class 385 EMUs including to be used on the newly electrified East Kilbride branch line. With possible further electrification including Kilmarnock, Carlisle via Dumfries and Ayr-Stranraer.
