We recently reported that the BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust had purchased a new Mark 1 Support Coach for 71000 Duke of Gloucester – W17015, which was previously used with GWR ‘Hall’ No. 4936 Kinlet Hall.
Kinlet Hall Ltd, which is part of JJP Holdings South West Ltd, says that the sale was made due to the complexity of running on the mainline, and the requirement to operate the coach in higher standards.
The group have also teamed up with Tyseley, and they have offered the use of their equipment.
The locomotive is undergoing her most extensive overhaul since her first overhaul, and Jonathan Jones Pratt has told RailAdvent that 4936 Kinlet Hall will return to the mainline.
Tyseley will operate 4936 Kinlet Hall for the future, and Jonathan Jones Pratt says that there is plans in place to do some trips in the West Country under the JJP tour programme as well as the locomotive returning to the West Somerset Railway once axle weight problems are fixed.
Jonathan Jones Pratt told RailAdvent “It was a sensible time to part with the coach, it allows the continued focus on our family engine Kinlet Hall.  We wish the Duke Group well and thank them for great business principles in the recent transaction, its all been very simple. Let’s ensure 4936 is back soon, we are well over 70% of the way now and we are pushing hard to get an end date so we can all enjoy a very popular Hall back out there again.”
