The BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust has announced that they have purchased a Mark 1 Support Coach for use on the mainline.
Previously, 71000 had a Mark 2 Support Coach that was air-braked, but the Mark 1 coach that they have acquired is dual braked, meaning it can be braked via air or vacuum, meaning it is more versatile for heritage and mainline use.
The Trust does not need two support coaches, so Mark 2 No. W17041 is up for sale, this has 4 compartments with first-class seats, a worktop, bunk beds as well as a kitchen.
The Trust has used it as a meeting room and kitchen during the ongoing overhaul of 71000 Duke of Gloucester, and they have said it would need some work to gain mainline approval, but is stabled at Tyseley Locomotive Works.
Expressions of Interest for the Mark 2 coach need to be via email to Chairman, Trevor Tuckley – [email protected]
The new Mark 1 coach needs some work too, so the recently launched Support Coach Appeal is very much still appropriate, and if you’d like to donate to this, please see the Donation page over on the BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust’s website.
