The 35011 General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society have released an update on progress made on their project to build 35011 General Steam Navigation
Good progress has been made on new parts for the locomotive despite the Coronavirus pandemic affecting efforts in both the financial and engineering areas.
A delivery from Ashbrook Engineering Ltd recently brought the completed front bogie spring beams, which were sponsored by Alan Dixon.
Alongside this, Tony Simmonds has been machining the spring hangers for the project, which means work on the bogie is progressing well.
Work has also progressed on converting the BPLA drawings of 35011’s frames and valve gear into CAD drawings to allow the Society to manufacture replacement parts.
This is a vital yet lengthy process to achieve the GSNLRS’ goal of reengineering the frames to a condition where they can accommodate chain-driven valve gear as well as replacing the middle cylinder.
Looking to the future, the Society will also have drawings converted to CAD of the smokebox and air-smoothed casing
The Trailing Truck Transformers is still the main fundraising campaign to fund the restoration of the trailing truck for 35011.
More information on the Trailing Truck Transformers can be found in RailAdvent’s previous article. There are a number of benefits to being part of this campaign, including regular updates, an invitation to a VIP day and a certificate of being a member.
Whilst being a member does cost £500, you can donate any amount to the Wheel Set Appeal or the Putting Funds Into The Frames Campaign.
2021 is set to be an important year for the General Steam Navigation Restoration Society, and they have some big goals.
If you would like to support them, why not become a member of the society, it is only £12 a year.
